Getting Real

My clients often come to me wanting to get away from some sort of stress and pain in their lives – work that isn’t a good fit, a divorce, stress of caretaking elder parents. The pain can come in many forms and from any aspect of our lives that’s not going as well or healthfully as we’d like it to be. Or they want a clearer direction forward but don’t know where to start.

In my new life coaching series – The Modern Life Toolbox – I want to give you some easy, new approaches to your own life planning and how to create change that will be smarter and more successful than our old, outdated models.

The first tool I use with clients is – GETTING REAL. This means getting real with exactly where you are in your life RIGHT NOW.

When you don’t understand where you are now, it often means you are focused on getting away from the pain. And that simply won’t work when you need see your situation clearly and move into the action steps that will help you create the life you want in the future. It’s important to remember that our old way of doing long term life planning doesn’t work in today’s world. We want to be making the smartest choices we can but with an incremental plan of no more than 5 years out. And we always need to start with step one – Getting Real.

Take an honest look at your situation now, with all its flaws and stresses. That’s what Getting Real is about, and it’s the best place to start.
