New Website – Wearing More Than One Hat

My new web site is a demonstration of how I am living my professional life, wearing more than one hat and working with more than one client base. Times have changed. I like to think of myself as part of the leading wave. Many of us grew up at a time when one college major, one first job, one employer, and one career label was sufficient to easily and quickly capture who we were professionally. The continuing demand for elevator speeches and professional labels of 3 words or less are just two examples of how out of touch we can be with the new realities of the workplace. The Gig Economy is looking better and better as Boomers enter non-retirement and want to continue creating income without singular, a full time job. A recent study predicts overall self-employment is likely to triple to 42 million workers by 2020, with millennials leading the way. Many organizations are turning toward the growing alternative workforce segment and seeking to hire more workers off their balance sheets as part of finding talent while eliminating costs. Do you have more than one complimentary professional identity and set of services? You don’t have to have multiple web sites any more.

When you visit my new site you’ll notice that we’ve divided it into Business and Personal, so that you can enter the areas of the site that most apply to you and easily find the right resources and information.

My Personal Consulting centers around crafting personal and professional lives at a time when focused skills are essential and many decisions, especially those we think of as permanent, refuse to stay made. When long term planning is no longer possible, regular planning and personal adjustment and adaptability are necessary. Of course, many of us think our plan is all in place because we have completed our Financial Advisors’ booklet of questions about priorities and dreams. What we fail to understand is that those answers and descriptions are created out of our imaginations. What we really will choose and imagine is often dramatically different in the disruptive reality of life as it happens. The personal consulting of my new web site is intended to start new and much more realistic thinking, deciding, and acting process for my clients.

My Business Consulting centers around leaders’ capacity to deal effectively with the often alarming mixture of continuous change and disruptive change that wash over and through organizations. My work is forensic: what is really happening here and what would the smartest responses be for leaders and their employees? A different tool box is required for each type of change. Most businesses employ and reward people who are great problem solvers, but this is a continuous change tool. What if a full solution is not an option and a new kind of thinking/behavior is required? Can leaders and employees even see a situation that can’t be configured accurately as a problem with a solution? The business consulting side of my new web site is intended to start new and much more realistic thinking, deciding, and acting process for my business clients.

I am in the midst of interviews with C Suite executives, their senior teams, and busy entrepreneurs to understand both their emerging “solutions” and what makes many business situations invisible to them. Not sitting on these answers is, of course, not an option. I will be sharing the interview results as well as writing the book. If you are interested in participating as an interviewee and fit the description I have just given, please let me know.
